Hi, welcome to this article and hope you’re doing well.

Table of Contents

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a free and open source create website software and content management system (CMS) that was completed by Matt Mullenweg, Mike Little and other excellent developers in 2003, mainly based on PHP and MySQL, so that anyone who is not computer expert or programmer (like me) can use it to make your own website.

From research, WordPress is used by over 60 million websites, including 33.6% of the Top 10 million websites in 2019. WordPress is one of the most popular content management system solutions in use.

What is the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com?

When you search for WordPress on Google, I believe you will see WordPress.org and WordPress.com, and here let me give you a quick explanation of the difference between both of them.

WordPress.com is a web space provided by Automattic, a company founded by Matt Mullenweg, one of the founders. You can apply for a blog, website or e-commerce store. You just need to create an account then you can use it immediately. The system is made to provide you with tools and network space, but if you want to modify your website, you need to upgrade to the Premium version (the following table has the cost table I searched for WordPress.com), but if the hosting performance is insufficient and sometimes it cannot be upgraded, because this is a pre-created platform for most of the people who just need a simple website.

WordPress.org is a free and open software that allows WordPress to be placed in the network space that you decide. It has complete functions, you can freely choose to purchase a host + domain + theme. You can fully control your website without any monthly fee.

So you can choose according to your personal needs. If you just want a place to write your own blog then you can just go for WordPress.com. It is a good experience to get started, but if you want full functionality, then you need to go for WordPress.org. Although it will take some time to explore from the beginning, but in the long run, overall cost are relatively cheap. (I personally build my website on WordPress.org.)

WordPress is free platform?

WordPress by itself is free software, and the costs it generates come from host + domain + theme purchases (themes have free and paid version). On average, it may cost about USD100 a year. If this fee can build your own brand and online business, I think it’s worth it and this is a good investment.

I'm totally a Tech Newbie, could i wordpress without any background?

WordPress is already a pre-framed software, so you don’t need to do any coding to create website by yourself. All you need to do is download and install the software and plug-ins, and you can gradually complete the station. Of course, if you know some coding, the website coming out will be better. But it still doesn’t matter, many functions can be assisted by plug-ins, and it can still come out with a good-looking website.

Feel a little self-confident now? Sound simple right?

Now.. let me give you a simple guide how does a Website build up..

A website just need 3 things, like I mention before…

  • Domain name
  • Web Hosting
  • Theme

What is Domain Name?

If want to explain domain name easily that’s your home address. Website is your house, then of course it has a home address right? Like my website “proaffiliatesuccess.com”. If want to identify them, which is each computer is assigned an IP address. It is a series of numbers that identify a particular computer on the internet. A typical IP address looks like this : 88.8888.88.8 (Just for example). There are many different types of domain name extensions out there, like .com, .org, .io, .net, and more. Of course the most popular is .com.

What is Web Hosting?

Before you build up a house, you need a land. That’s the same way to build up a website. Before install WordPress, you need to have a Web Hosting. All the post, media, files will store inside web hosting, that’s the place where they live.

What is Theme?

While you build up your house and also got your home address, of course it’s time for decoration. After you bought web hosting and installed WordPress, this is the step to insert theme.

Theme is the appearance of your website. 80% of the appearance of the website comes from your theme, and the themes is divided into free and paid. If you have no idea how to plan your website, you can use the free theme. Just familiarize yourself with the WordPress background, WordPress provides a ton of theme choices, but if you want to build your own brand or blog, I personally recommended to buy paid themes, it is full of functionality and completeness.

Every themes have their own pre-made templates and stylesheets. Each theme has it own design, layout, features. Depends on your needs and requirements to choose your own theme. Like blog, web store, portfolio, travel and many more.

Basically it is just simple steps for you to know how a website build up..

Now.. Is it true that you can build a website even you are tech newbie and don’t understand any background? Very exciting right?

After you have your own website, you still have to start makeup, such as adding content, adjusting the layout, adding plug-ins, etc. And adjusting it step by step to become a pro website. So keep learning about WordPress and you will find this it is a really fun and interesting thing.

To Be Continue...

Just a little notice for all newbies, after setup your website this is just a beginning. Want to build up an amazing and strong website, there are a few categories that we will be dive into, like…

  1. Hi Samuel,
This is really great because a lot of sites just ask you to build your website or start online business even though you have no knowledge without really explaining how the system basically works. Amazing explanation of WP, because I already started building my website without really knowing anything about word press.
Do you have any recommendations of tools one can use to import or add products to e-commerce site using automation?
    Thanks for the informative post
